JW Bombed
by LouBelle inon friday the 1st of march, i went to my cousins 21st birthday celebration - she has never been a jw.
my other cousins (twins) were introduced by my mother to the faith over 20 years ago (they are now 38) and got baptised when they were about 19. they both weren't that "strong" in the faith and married "worldly partners" and stopped going to meetings.. they knew i had left and i presumed they knew i was disfellowshipped for apostacy.. at the party the one twin came over to me and we chatted about life etc and she says "oh carl is going to start studying" - i looked at her a little odd and asked what it was as he already had a financial degree.
"no silly, he is going to study the truth" my face must have been a picture and in a very high voiced squeaked why would he ever consider that, he is an intellecutal guy....... she continued about how the people had changed and were so much better than when we were younger.

A question for those that have been around this board for a long time
by JeffT inmy wife and i stopped going to meetings in 1988 and da'd in 1989. for a few years we both actively participated in the xjw world, she quit doing that a long time ago, and has pretty much completely moved on.
the other night i told her about my planned blog (which will probably launch this weekend) it will mostly be about my writing, a lot of which is mostly about jw related issues.
she asked why i am still so drawn to this subject.

Discipline or child abuse? Still going on in the hall?
by Pickler indoes anyone else remember all the discipline of children at the meetings?
i was just thinking how i never see anyone physically punish their children anymore.
growing up attending meetings there was a constant stream of children being taken out & hit, as well as all the whispered threats, arm squeezing, pinching etc.

I have been out for almost seven yrs . In our old hall when our children were small there was a time when we had fifty kids under the age of 10....There were LOTS of crying children . The Elders made an announcement not to take a child outside of the hall for a spanking ,because the neighbors might not understand 'spare the rod '.

It's a miserable life --- Really?
by Lady Lee ini was at the check-out counter sitting in my wheelchair, listening to the customer behind me talk to the cashier.
he looks at her and says she looks tired.
she rings through one more of my purchases and she it has been a long day.

when I see myself acting negatively, I do my best to exchange the acts for something positive.
I do this too ,PaintedToeNail ! Happiness has to come from with in ourselves . Change your thoughts ,change your world .
I struggle to do this ,but I know the effects of negative thinking ,and I do not want that for myself anymore .

How many of you followed the WTS direction on education years ago and have been screwed by it?
by Julia Orwell ini'm really interested in this question because i've heard for years that if you forgo further education and go pioneering, when you have a family down the track you will get a good job because jehovah will provide for you because you pioneered.
as long as i was a kool-aid drinker, even then, i thought, "how does pioneering pay your bills?
surely education should come first.

Yes ,I am one of those feeling the effects of the wonderfully wrong Watchtower advice on education. I was always a good student ,and loved science and art . In High School I was an Honor student ,and graduated top of my class . Teachers tried to convince me to go on to college ,my worldly Grandfather offered to pay for school . However my Witness Mother had always drilled into me the end was near ,and a career would be a waste of time . I was afraid the end would come ,and at 18 all I wanted to do was get married have children before it was too late .My husband became a witness in his teens and because of other family problems had to start working as a teenager.
Now we are in our fifties ,and still work physically demanding jobs . I work three part-time jobs with no benefits . None of my jobs pay well . My husband is very smart and mechanically inclined .He has taught himself so many things, yet he is stuck in a job that exposes him to harmful chemicals and exhuasting work . We feel trapped because we are too old to change jobs now .
I would just burn up when they gave parts at assemblies about some kid being glorified for giving up a scholarship in order to pioneer....

I told my Mother in Law that we were not attending because I needed a break . I was not happy ,and needed time to sort out my feelings and thoughts . She asked me if it was because of something someone in the hall had said or done ,and I told her no . She became angry and wanted to know if I had disassociated myself ,and I said No . Then I just told her it was personal ,and a private issue that I wanted to work out on my own .I told her I would appreciate her keeping out of it .( I didn't want her sending in a rescue squad of Elders ) I refused to elaborate on it or go into details .
